I don't know how old Happy JO is. Mid 20s? He's very smart in an endearing kind of way, a strong hiker, despite a knee that would take out most people, and really good company on the trail. He likes to know where the trail is at all times. He's based out of Baltimore, and soon moving to Europe with his fiancée. He was listening to French tapes while hiking.

I met Happy JO when he, Sundance and Little Ewok were flying up Muir Pass. Yogi and I enjoyed the trio's company to Tuolumne. Then Happy JO and I hiked some of the next leg together. He was committed to getting to Stehekin by September 10th, and I didn't want that kind of schedule so off he went.
